THE BACKGROUND
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) were born at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. The objective was to produce a set of universal goals that meet the urgent environmental, political and economic challenges facing our world. The SDGs replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which started a global effort in 2000 to tackle the indignity of poverty. The MDGs established measurable, universally agreed objectives for tackling extreme poverty and hunger, preventing deadly diseases, and expanding primary education to all children, among other development priorities.
The SDGs are unique in that they cover issues that affect us all. They reaffirm our international commitment to end poverty, permanently, everywhere. They are ambitious in making sure no one is left behind. More importantly, they involve us all to build a more sustainable, safer, more prosperous planet for all humanity. The aim of the UN is to achieve these goals by 2030.

Football And The Sustainable Development Goals

Sport, including football, has proven to be a cost-effective and flexible tool in promoting peace and development objectives. Our work shows us on a daily basis that football has the power to change lives. We are convinced that football is a powerful tool with the potential to tackle challenges entailed in at least 10 of the 17 SDG’s. Together with its members and partners, EFDN is aiming at working towards new milestones in CSR in football.

In line with the UN’s SDG’s Valencia Turia Football has the following aims:
- To improve, maintain and promote the physical, mental and social well-being of all players who choose to play football with VTF.
- To promote social inclusion by providing high-quality affordable activities.
- To advance and follow The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- To engage with all members of our community regardless of ability, race, age, religion, gender or sexual orientation and has been our mission since the existence of VTF.
- To make VTF the heart of its community by providing health and social opportunities to the wider community.
- To create a sustainable structure throughout Valencia at all appropriate age levels.
- To ensure we maximise community facilities.
- To provide support to those who need help and encourage them to make positive contributions to their community.
Our main objectives are:
Social Inclusion:
VTF will help deliver and support activities that aim to increase opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged or other minority groups. Our projects will also consider how to best engage with those community members suffering from social exclusion and tailor our approach accordingly.
Participation:
Increase participation in all age groups. Our aim in 2021 is to raise knowledge, awareness and make accessible 'veteran' football. Veteran football is any player who is aged 40 or over and we want to promote participation where possible. Additionally, we will promote the benefits of sports from a physical, mental and social viewpoint for all participants of all ability, race, age, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
Good Health & Well-Being:
We will offer a range of healthy and engaging activities. This will promote positive lifestyle choices and people will see the benefits that regular exercise can have. We will encourage people to follow healthy diets and the objective is to enable that individual to feel healthy and enjoy long-term health benefits.
Promotion:
We will share and promote our events to the general public in order to support and facilitate the growth of our activities across the Valencian community.
Events:
At VTF we strive to deliver competitions that are inclusive to all members of our community in Valencia. We will ensure this continues when organising any future events.
